Associating the tag line “Work Health and Safety. Remember. Prevention”, Safe Work hopes that the day’s focus would be on taking actions which can prevent future work-related deaths, injuries and illnesses; and, on remembering those that have died from a work-related injury or illness.

Despite a reduction in the number of Australians injured or killed at work over the last 10 years, in 2014 185 workers lost their lives to work.

Safe Work believes that one way of preventing further workplace incidents is through raising the awareness of work health and safety and taking action.

To help raise awareness of work health and safety, Safe Work encourages everyone to:

  • Hold a one minute silence to remember those we have lost
  • Organise a morning/afternoon tea to talk about work health and safety
  • Arrange for a safety expert to speak at your workplace, or
  • Host a toolbox talk.

An ecumenical service to commemorate International Workers Memorial Day will be held at Pilgrim Uniting Church 12 Flinders Street, Adelaide, South Australia.

Safe Work South Australia invites family, friends and colleagues who have lost someone dear through a workplace death to attend the special church service to remember and honour them.

Attendees are encouraged to bring some personal items or photos of their loved ones for a memorial display.

Electronic resources such as A3 poster, A4 flyer and website banner have also been developed to aid in the promotion of the event. These resources can be downloaded via this link.
