How to insure your racking assets are safe.
It is generally accepted that steel storage racking should be checked to ensure its safety regularly. How check process is managed is important to ensuring the safety of the racking and staff operating with those structures. A proactive approach utilising a balance of internal and external auditing processes is the best option to ensure issues are identified quickly and effectively.
The following schedule is a useful example of how to create a process that is comprehensive and creates a closed loop inspection process.
| Check Type | What Should be inspected | Who should do the inspection | Comments |
| Weekly Check | General inspection of the racking systems (Walk through) | Manager or Supervisor | This inspection should include review in up right protection and previously identified "Green" items |
| Monthly Check | General Inspection of the Racking System including repair process | Manager or Supervisor | This review should cover all elements in the weekly inspection but should review progress on repairs to the racking system from the annual or semi annual inspection |
| 6 or 12 Monthly Check | The entire racking system should be inspected against the relevant standard | A trained and experienced inspector | In all cases, however, the examination should be formal with a written report documenting the extent and result of the examination. (FEM 10.2.04) |
