Grim stats put workplace safety in spotlight
Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show 125 Australians have been killed at work so far this year. Transport, postal & warehousing workplaces have the highest number of workplace fatalities (39), while Agriculture, forestry & fishing emerged as Australia’s second most fatal workplaces with 34 fatalities so far.
The construction industry comes third with 18 fatalities
According to Safe Work Australia, Arts & recreation services and Electricity, gas, water & waste services had each six fatalities. Mining and Other services workplaces had each four fatalities.
Each of the following workplaces has recorded two fatalities: Administrative & support services, Accommodation& food services, and Health care & social assistance. Other workplaces with two fatalities include Retail trade, Information media & telecommunications, and Professional, scientific & technical services.
The figures indicate Public administration & safety and Wholesale trade recorded one fatality each.
So far, no fatalities have been reported in Financial & insurance services, Government administration & defence, Education & training and Manufacturing workplaces.
